The Judith Brown Women's Liberation Leadership Endowment ScholarshipAbout Judith Brown (1941-1991)Judith Brown was a leading figure of the Southern civil rights struggle and an internationally recognized pioneer of the worldwide feminist revival from the 1960s to 1991. A graduate of the UF Masters Program in English and the UF Law School, she pursued social justice as an attorney, a writer, a movement leader and a front-line organizer who was arrested and jailed repeatedly in this work. Upon her death, the Judith Brown Women's Liberation Leadership Endowment was set up to help carry on the work that was the purpose of Judith's life: the fight of people, and of women in particular, for dignity, equality, freedom and a democratic society. About the AwardThe Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research receives a yearly donation from the Endowment for tuition scholarships if there are eligible students. An eligible student would:
These activities will be completed with approval and guidance from the Endowment and the Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research. Several awards in the amount of $100 to $300 are available. Award Selection and ProcedureUpon referral, each applicant will be evaluated by the Endowment and one representative of the Center for Women's Studies and Gender Research. ApplicationApplications must be accompanied by a transcript and a letter of recommendation from a feminist group.
