Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies
This interdisciplinary program offers the opportunity to develop a thorough
grounding in Women's Studies scholarship while pursuing graduate training
in another field or discpline.All graduate students in an M.A. or Ph.D.
program at UF may enroll in this program. The Center for Women's Studies
and Gender Research encourages graduate students from all colleges to participate.
To participate, please fill out the Graduate
Certificate Application & Plan-of-Study. Please note: Graduate
students expecting to finish their Certificates should complete the Graduate
Certificate Final Approval form.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates pursuing a Certificate in Women's Studies must complete a
total of 12 CREDIT HOURS at the 5000 level or higher as well as complete
a paper or project with a gender focus. Six credits must be taken through
the Center and may be chosen from the following:

WST 5933 Proseminar in Women's Studies: Applying Feminist Theory

WST 6508 Advanced Feminist Theory

WST 6936 Feminist Challenges to Traditional Paradigms

WST 6935 Special Interdisciplinary Topics in Women's Studies
The other six may be chosen from the list
of outside courses which count toward Women's Studies. Graduate courses
taken in the student's major department that are also Women's Studies courses
may count for the Certificate as well. In addition, students may take up
to three hours of approved independent study work (WST 6905) or may count
up to three Masters or PhD research hours in their major department if
the thesis of dissertation has a prominent gender focus.
Certificate work must be approved by the Center Graduate Coordinator
and the Center Director.
