Biography
Dr. Angel Kwolek-Folland is a Professor of History and Women’s
Studies. Her areas of specialization include U.S. women's history,
gender and business history, the history of sexuality, and material
culture studies. She has been Associate Dean for Centers, Institutes,
and International Affairs for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
at UF since January 2005. Before that, she was Director of the Center
for Women's Studies and Gender Research at UF for 5 years. She earned
her Ph.D. in the history of U.S. women from the University of Minnesota
in 1987, and from then until 2000 she was on the faculty of the
University of Kansas. Her first book, Engendering Business: Men
and Women in the Corporate Office, 1870-1930 (1994), won the
Sierra Prize for Best Historical Monograph from the Western Association
of Women Historians. Her second book, Incorporating Women: A
History of Women and Business in the United States (1998), is the
first book in women’s business history. Dr. Kwolek-Folland also has
published numerous articles and reviews, and in 2002 was awarded the
Harold F. Williamson Prize by the Business History Conference in
recognition of her "significant contribution to the field of business
history" for her work on women and gender in business. She is a William
J. Fulbright Senior Specialist in gender issues (2005-10), has been
active since 1988 in the College Board's Advanced Placement program,
and is the past president of the Southeastern Women's Studies
Association.
